During the Foundation's first grant cycle of the 2024-2025 academic year, the WSF Board of Directors approved over $4,000 in grants to Waterloo Schools students and staff. These innovative projects include:
Equipment to further the already established student volunteer-led organization that sells concession items at the Central Middle School campus. Overseen by Ashley Chase, this grant will allow students to expand their product offerings and continue having real-world experiences as entrepreneurs.
Assistance to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders at Harvard by Delilah Schultz. Schultz will connect with other like-minded, medical-focused individuals while hearing from Nobel Prize winners and attending live QnAs of surgeons’ surgeries.
Guitar class enhancements at Central Middle School will allow teacher Ryan Occena to grow his curriculum. Occena’s well-equipped classroom will enable eighth-grade students to enter a nontraditional music program they previously did not have access to.
These grants will be funded through Waterloo Schools Foundation’s grant cycle funds and the Middle School CTE fund.
The grants above are in addition to WSF District Initiatives and other fundraising projects in partnership with the Waterloo Community School District. Grants funded focus on the Foundation’s five funding values: innovation, social emotional learning, longevity, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and financial hardship for academic access.
